Prone position is when the child is lying on his or her stomach to complete an activity or play a game.
Different prone positions:
- Peanut ball
- Hanging from a hammock
- Support benches
- Weight bearing on elbows
Prone positioning increases:
- Core, neck, and upper body strength
- Activity endurance
- Muscle strength of the extensor muscles of the back which assist the child in maintaining proper postural alignment when sitting at a classroom desk
Fun therapeutic activities to complete in a prone position:
- Puzzles
- Coloring books or “I Spy” books
- Playing on a scooter from point A to point B to gather different items or to complete a puzzle
- Placing stickers on a vertical surface
- Board or card games
- Writing activities
- Fine motor games

- Play dough or kinetic sand
