👀 Eye and Hand Skills in OT: “What Is OT?” Series Book 4

November 13, 2025 By admin

A Heartfelt Children’s Book That Helps Families Understand How OT Connects What Kids See with What They Do

Hi friends, I’m Justine “Jellybean” Bedocs, a pediatric occupational therapist in Fairfield County, Connecticut. For over 25 years, I’ve had the joy of helping children grow, learn, and thrive through the power of play, movement, and connection.

After exploring hand skills, big body movements, and brain-body connections in the first four books, I wanted to focus on another exciting area: eye-hand coordination. That’s what inspired Eye and Hand Skills in OT, the fifth book in my “What Is OT?” series. This story helps children and families understand how their eyes, hands, and brain work together to explore, play, learn, and complete everyday tasks.

💛 Meet Isabella, the Heart of the Story💛

In this story, we meet Isabella, a curious and creative little girl who loves to build, draw, and play games. Sometimes, her hands and eyes don’t quite work together the way she wants, and that can make certain tasks tricky.

Through occupational therapy, Isabella learns fun and playful ways to improve her eye-hand coordination. She discovers that every puzzle, block, drawing, and catch helps her eyes and hands become teammates, making her stronger, more confident, and ready to try new things.

✨ A Place Where Vision Meets Action ✨

In Eye and Hand Skills in OT, children and families see how occupational therapy turns everyday activities into opportunities for growth. Through colorful illustrations and relatable examples, readers learn how OT helps children:

✏️ Strengthen visual-motor skills for writing, cutting, and drawing
🎯 Improve tracking, timing, and accuracy for games and sports
🧩 Develop spatial awareness for puzzles, building, and navigating spaces
🏐 Build coordination for catching, throwing, and fine motor tasks
🪄 Practice attention, planning, and problem-solving through fun activities

Each page shows that when eyes and hands work together, children can feel more capable and independent in school, play, and daily life.

💬 From the Author💬

As an occupational therapist, I’ve seen how improving eye-hand coordination opens doors for children. From smoother handwriting to better participation in games, crafts, and classroom activities.

Eye and Hand Skills in OT was created to help families see that OT is more than exercises, it’s about helping children connect what they see with what they do. Through practice, play, and encouragement, children learn that effort leads to confidence and independence.

❤️ A Learning Tool for Families, Teachers, and Therapists ❤️

Eye and Hand Skills in OT is a valuable resource for:

  • Parents, who want to understand how visual and motor skills support everyday success

  • Teachers, who wish to support students struggling with handwriting, focus, or coordination

  • Therapists, who want a child-friendly introduction to OT concepts

This story helps everyone see that OT builds bridges between vision, movement, and confidence, turning play into progress and practice into growth.

🌟 Join the OT Journey🌟

OT helps children connect their eyes, hands, and brains so they can play, learn, and explore with confidence. My hope is that Eye and Hand Skills in OT inspires families to celebrate every puzzle, block, and catch, because each success is a step toward independence, confidence, and joy.
